U.S. Air Force musicians to perform at STC on Feb. 27

The U.S. Air Force Band of the West Dimensions in Blue Jazz Ensemble will perform at the South Texas College Pecan Campus Cooper Center for the Communication Arts on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

Dimensions in Blue, the jazz ensemble from the United States Air Force Band of the West, will be present a free concert on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at the South Texas College Pecan Campus Cooper Center for the Communication Arts, located at 3201 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. Performance time is at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Technology Campus exhibit finds enlightenment in graffiti art

South Texas College’s Technology Campus Library presents “Spiritual Surrealism,” an exhibit featuring paintings by Manuel Zamudio. The exhibit opens Thursday, Feb. 28 and will be on view through Friday, May 10, 2013. The library is located at 3700 W. Military Hwy. in McAllen. Admission is free and open to the public. Zamudio’s work uses symbolism and vibrant color to express ideas of enlightenment, spirituality, mysticism and the occult. He then infuses this with aspects of graffiti or street art. Business Consortium Partners with STC for $801,077 Job-Training Grant

A five-member business consortium has partnered with South Texas College to provide job training using an $801,077 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The businesses partnering in the grant include I. Kunik Co., Val Verde Vegetable Co. Inc., Coast Tropical, Del Monte Foods, and Loop Cold Storage Co. The grant will be used to custom train 488 new and incumbent workers to enable the employers to increase worker knowledge of modern manufacturing processes, improve productivity and reduce employee turnover.
