Civil rights pioneer R.P. "Bob" Sánchez was honored by STC's Center for Mexican American Studies' fifth annual Premio Sol de Aztlán at the Pecan Campus on Nov. 7, 2012.

South Texas College celebrated Native American Heritage Month on Nov. 1 with a full house at the Pecan Campus Library Rainbow Room that welcomed Native American author and poet Dr. Simon J. Native American author, poet will give a pair of presentations and book signings at the STC Mid-Valley and Pecan Campuses on Nov. 1, 2012.

South Texas College will celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a pair of presentations by guest author Dr. Simon J. Ortiz from Arizona State University on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012. Ortiz will appear at the Mid-Valley Campus Auditorium at 2 p.m., Building G, Room 191, located at 400 North Border in Weslaco, and later in the day at the Pecan Campus Library Rainbow Room at 6 p.m., located at 3201 W. Dale Ensign Trustee Leadership Award at the annual Community College Leadership Congress Awards Gala on Oct. 12 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Gurwitz  represents District 4 that includes the constituents of North McAllen, Northwest Pharr, Palmhurst, Northeast Mission, and Southwest Edinburg. Artist Joe Daun to create Installation Art at STC

Joe Daun will work with South Texas College students from the college’s Digital Photography and Foto Werks Club to create a work while visiting the Rio Grande Valley from Nov. 12 to 15 at the STC Pecan Campus in McAllen. Daun, who is the head of the Art Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce, will give a lecture on Nov. 15 at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Pecan Campus Building D Auditorium.
