STC sees 30 percent jump in summer enrollment

As the heat continues blazing, South Texas College is showing red hot growth with a 30 percent increase in summer enrollment. Approximately 16,457 students took advantage of summer 2010 classes at STC, an increase of 3,820 students over the summer 2009 enrollment of 12,637 students. “Students are taking advantage of the summer to get ahead,” said William Serrata, STC vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. “They know that taking summer classes will help them graduate earlier, saving time and money. Building on the success of its spring 2010 sponsorship of the Kid Zone at Onion Fest in Weslaco, South Texas College, in conjunction with the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce, won the marketing award for the Best New Programming from the Texas Festivals and Events Association. The event’s STC Kid Zone was created through the work of the Mid-Valley Campus Student Life Department, Biology and Science Clubs, the Child Development Center, and Jerry the Jaguar, who made a celebrity appearance to sign autographs, pose for pictures and participate in some fun and games.
