Culinary arts student hopes to become a pastry chef and eventually operate her own pastry and coffee shop in the future.
My parents believe in the power of giving back to others, and so they dedicated their lives to running the Big Heart Orphanage in Reynosa, Mexico to lend a helping hand where it is needed most. They set a great example for me, and now it’s my turn to make them proud.
I am currently pursuing an associate’s degree in culinary arts at South Texas College. After earning my degree, I hope to become a pastry chef and eventually operate my own pastry and coffee shop. I really like cooking up new dishes because it allows me to use my creativity to make something others will savor and enjoy. I especially love to bake. The smell of freshly made cookies or the way a cake looks after it has been perfectly frosted is awe inspiring to me.
Throughout the years, I discovered life is a lot like baking – you need the perfect combination of the right ingredients to be successful. If you’re off by a half teaspoon of baking powder, or you don’t put enough love in the mix, your product won’t have the right consistency. The same goes for life, if you don’t pursue your goals with the right amount of fervor and passion, you will fall short of true success.
STC provides the right amount of skills, ingredients, to help me bake up a recipe for success and realize my long-term goals. Taking classes at the college has been a refreshing and eye-opening experience because I discovered my love of the culinary arts and my talents as a pastry chef. I honestly never thought I would attend college, but, at the age of 24, I decided to give it at try and found that STC offers the perfect learning environment for others like me. The classes, especially my cooking labs, give me the right hands-on training to excel in the culinary field and my instructors are all very helpful and supportive.
Having a degree is very important because the knowledge gained in college better prepares you for your future and allows you to pursue a career you love. In life, just like in baking, love is the most important thing, after all, and nothing else matters without it. So love what you do, pursue your goals with great fervor, and you will be successful.
Who inspires me the most? My parents inspire me because they are great examples of selfless service and perseverance. They taught me to follow my dreams and heart’s desires, no matter what obstacles or challenges are put in my way. They also taught me the importance of giving back to others and being of service to those who are in need.
What are some of my hobbies? I love to play the guitar and sing. I’ve been playing the guitar for 10 years. I enjoy it because music is so soothing to the soul. I also like spending time with my friends and family, being outdoors, running, cooking (of course) and painting.
