South Texas College Theatre would like to invite all to auditions for the Summer Main Stage Children’s Theatre Production at the Cooper Center.
The play is “Wiley and the Hairy Man,” a drama by Suzan Zeder and is directed by Joel Jason Rodriguez.
The group is holding auditions May 16 and 17, with call backs on May 18 at STC’s Pecan Campus Black Box Theatre at the Cooper Center for Communication Arts located at 3201 West Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. All activities are from 7 to 9 p.m. Three men, one woman and a chorus are needed for the show.
Anyone interested in auditioning needs to have a prepared two to three minute monologue and a photo. A passage from the script will also be given to actors at the time of check-in for a cold read. Those auditioning should wear comfortable attire to move in as this production is movement heavy. People who audition do not have to show up for both days.
Set deep within the mysterious Tombigbee Swamp, the play centers around a young fatherless boy, his conjure-woman mother, his faithful dog, and the man who haunts Wiley’s days and dreams. Through rhythm and rhyme, a chorus creates the mystery of the swamp. In an exciting duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely on his own resources and conquers two villains; the hairy Man and his own fear.
