STC student Angela Mendoza was named STC’s 2009 Work Study of the Year Award.

Angela Mendoza is STC’s 2009 Work Study of the Year.

South Texas College’s motto is “Get a life…A student life at STC!” and that is exactly what student Angela Mendoza did. Mendoza found the meaning behind the phrase when she was hired as a work study in the Office of Student Life at STC’s Mid-Valley Campus. From day one, Angela enjoyed her job because it allowed her to help out with the development, delivery and evaluation of policies, programs and services that STC offers its students. The job not only provided Mendoza with the extra monetary support she needed, but it also allowed her to show others her strong work ethic. Aside from studying and working, she managed to take on an additional role in the office, and in the absence of some office staff, Mendoza stepped up the plate to help her supervisor run the Office of Student Life. Her hard work, innovation and dedication have earned her STC’s 2009 Work Study of the Year Award.

“This award shows me that my hard work has not been in vain,” said Mendoza. “I will forever cherish the memory of the surprise party my supervisor organized to celebrate my achievement.”

“Ever since she started working in our office, Angela has gone above and beyond the call of duty, and she has demonstrated great enthusiasm to perform her assigned tasks and a true dedication to her job,” said Tyrone A. Marshall, Mid-Valley Campus Student Life Office supervisor. “We are pleased to recognize her and hope that her experience working with us contributes to her success in life.”

Mendoza plans to enter STC’s Physical Therapy Assistant Program and one day run her own business. She dreams of having a financially stable family and understands that a college degree is the way to go. She says that her time spent at STC is preparing her to be successful in the future.
