For 31 year old Harlingen native Abraham Garza, it was the support and detailed training of South Texas College’s (STC) Alternative Teacher Certification Program that elevated him from a part-time night school teacher into a full-time position as an English teacher for Ignite Public Schools.  With a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas-Pan American, Garza knew he had to pursue other educational options that would make him more competitive in the workforce and certify him to teach at the highest of standards. Barkitecture Camp has students howling with delight

Many Rio Grande Valley high school students use their summer vacation as a much needed break from school studies. But that’s not the case for 40 students from Mission’s Palmview High School. Instead they spent four mornings a week throughout the month of June at South Texas College’s Technology Campus learning about algebra, drafting and design. Father waits his turn to take steps to a better future

Guadalupe Rodriguez recently earned his GED certificate with help from STC’s Continuing, Professional and Workforce Education Program.

When he starts talking about his four children, Guadalupe Rodriguez’s face immediately lights up. It is evident that he is very proud of them. “I have two sons and two daughters and three of them have already graduated from college and gone on to good work; one as a teacher and the others as therapists,” he explained. “The youngest is in high school, but she will go to college too.
