Going to college is about learning how we fit into the world. It is also a time to learn more about our strengths and how we can use them to contribute to society. As a student at South Texas College, I’ve not only been able to gain the skills and knowledge to enter the workforce, but am getting a glimpse into what the real world has in store for me. Pecan Campus Bio Club relays for cancer cure

STC’s Pecan Campus Biology Club Relay for Life Team enjoying doing their part to find a cure for cancer.

By: Pecan Campus Biology Club South Texas College's Pecan Campus Biology Club's Relay for Life Team joined hundreds of community members in the fight against cancer in mid-April at the Upper Valley Relay for Life event. The bronze-ranking team raised more than $1600 through team fundraising activities, individual fundraising efforts, and online donations to the team's Relay for Life website. Exhibition highlights endangered natural world at Pecan Campus Library

South Texas College's Pecan Campus Library Art Gallery is proud to present "Vanishing Species," featuring a collection of digital photographs by Beth Thomas. The exhibit opens Thursday, April 23 with an artist lecture at 6 p.m. in STC's Pecan Campus Building D Auditorium, and a reception immediately following from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Pecan Campus Library Art Gallery. Pecan Campus biologists continue efforts to educate community’s youth

South Texas College's Pecan Campus Biology Club's Mobile Biologist Team made biology and science more accessible to 77 elementary school students at Mission's Leal Elementary School. In late March, team members Kimberly Asumendi, Edward Cox, Flor Lozano, Andy Villarreal, Daniel Ramirez, Johanna Knight, Steven Garza and David Acosta taught Leal students how to make recycled paper and helped them see their own cells under microscopes. 2009 juried student art competition, exhibition opens soon

The Art Department is proud to announce the 2009 Annual South Texas College Juried Student Art Competition and Exhibition. The exhibition will be display in the Art Gallery found in the newly renovated Art Building on the STC Pecan Campus, Building B - 103, from April 16 through May 1, 2009. Carmen Tafolla examines bi-cultural nature of Valley at STC’s Pecan Campus

Dr. Carmen Tafolla will give a reading and presentation at South Texas College’s Pecan Campus Library Rainbow Room at 7 p.m. on April 7.

Dr. Carmen Tafolla writes stories exploring the human spirit and bi-cultural world of the Texas-Mexico border, and she draws inspiration from, as she says, "ancestors whispering over my shoulder." Long considered one of the madrinas of Chicana literature and a master of bilingual code-switching, Tafolla is the author of more than 15 books, seven screenplays, and numerous articles and essays. Pecan Campus Art Building facelift successful

The South Texas College community celebrated the re-opening of its newly remodeled Pecan Campus Art Building in late March. More than 250 people filled the halls of the building, which showcased student art, as well as pieces from visiting artists.In addition, the Art Department dedicated the new Pecan Campus Art Garden located in the area between the campus' Art Building and Physical Plant. Becker CPA Exam Review courses gearing up

Due to its popularity and success rate, South Texas College's Continuing and Professional Education Program is offering the Becker Certified Public Accountants Review at the college's Pecan Campus in McAllen. The classes will be offered on Saturdays beginning April 18 through September 18. The courses will cover the four main sections on the CPA exam, including regulation, finance, auditing and business.
