South Texas College’s Pecan Campus Library presents “Intimacy through Form,” a mixed media exhibit featuring works by Jimena Marin. The exhibit is on view now through Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012 on the first floor of the library, which is located at 3201 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. Local author dishes juice on new book at STC Pecan Campus Library

Author and local attorney Chuy Ramirez will read excerpts from his first novel, “Strawberry Fields,” at STC’s Pecan Campus Library on April 10 at 2 p.m.

There are many traditions and cultural nuances unique to South Texas and it is this tapestry of stories and tales that come together to create a shared and distinctive history. Chuy Ramirez knows a great deal about this rich history and what it’s like to live on the cusp of two cultures. His first novel, “Strawberry Fields,” chronicles the stories of three generations of a Mexican family’s gradual integration into American culture. Artist celebrates nostalgia of Valley with new exhibit at Pecan Campus Library

Gabriel Salazar is a self-taught artist who has been painting for 30 years. A Rio Grande Valley native, his inspiration is his home environment. Now he has an entire collection of Valley-inspired art and is sharing it with the students of South Texas College “Visions of the Rio Grande Valley,” featuring oil on canvas paintings by Salazar will be on exhibit at the college’s Pecan Campus Library Art Gallery from Thursday, Feb. 4 through March 27. More than 80,000 Latinos fought in the Vietnam War, and a staggering 15,000 of them died in battle. Those who survived brought home unique experiences and memories of what it was like to serve in one of the longest battles in U.S. history. On Nov. 10, the stories of three of these servicemen will be told when South Texas College hosts a screening of the film “As Long as I Remember: American Veteranos,” by director Laura Varela.
