Academy set to graduate more than 100 young leaders

South Texas College’s Student Leadership Academy kicked off its spring semester recently. The SLA was launched in fall 2005 and the first graduation was held in May 2006 with 17 graduates. Bargatze made his television debut on the “CMT Comedy Stage” in 2007 and has been a fast-rising star on the national comedian scene ever since. South Texas College’s Center for Mexican American Studies, in partnership with the college’s Student Activities Department and Border Studies Club, invites you to special musical presentations by renowned Mexican group Huehuetl. The first musical presentation takes place Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at STC’s Starr County Campus Amphitheater located at 142 FM 3167 in Rio Grande City. Starr County Campus to hold 9/11 remembrance ceremony

South Texas College’s Starr County Campus will hold a ceremony in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at 9:45 a.m. in front of the campus’ South Academic Building. STC’s Starr County Campus extends an invitation to the public to attend this free ceremony. By: Elizandro Munoz, STC History Instructor and Border Studies Club Advisor The Mid-Valley Campus Border Studies Club went on a field excursion at the end of March 26 to Goliad to witness the 175th anniversary of the Texas Independence Revolution. We took a tour of a Spanish Presidio (fort) La Bahia and saw a large scale re-enactment of some of the battles. We also toured a Spanish Mission, Espiritu Santo, both of which were originally built by the Spanish in the 1700's. The gift giving bug was powerful, spreading to the STC Mid-Valley Health and Wellness Center staff and even over to Weslaco High School’s Student Council.
