Student of the Week: Gabriel Rocha

Since he was young, Gabriel Rocha says he has always been fascinated with machines and how they operate; especially firearms. Inspired by his father, who was a firearms instructor with US Border Patrol, Gabriel said he channeled those experiences to eventually pursue a degree in manufacturing technology. A graduate of McAllen High School, Gabriel said he received his certificate in structural welding while still in high school. South Texas College kicks off 5th annual Innovation Conference Oct. 20

South Texas College kicks off its annual binational effort to promote entrepreneurship and business locally and south of the border. The 5th Annual Binational Innovation Conference (INNO 2017) is a bi-national collaborative effort between STC and El Instituto Internacional de Estudios Superiores in Reynosa, Mexico, and takes place on Oct. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the STC Technology Campus located at 3700 W. Road closure near STC Pecan Campus

The City of McAllen will close a portion of 29th street on the east side of the Pecan campus at the intersection of Ebony Street from Monday Oct. 2 to Thursday Oct. 05. The city has notified the college that the closure is due to the installation of new pipes underneath the street. The road closure has the potential to affect students and employees who use the street to arrive and depart the Pecan campus. FAFSA registration begins Oct. 1

Students at South Texas College may begin applying for their Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on Oct. 1. For those who want to file as early as possible, students are urged to go online to https://fafsa.ed.gov/ to get started on their free application. South Texas College’s Library Art Gallery proudly presents “Yo Solita Me Enseñé,” a multi-media exhibit with photography, handmade paper, bronze sculpture, fabric, and found objects by Jenelle Esparza. The exhibit opened Monday, September 11 and runs through October 11, 2017. There will be a closing artist lecture on October 11 at 1 p.m. and a reception to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pecan Campus Library Art Gallery. The exhibit is located at 3201 W.
