Grainger donates $6K in tools to South Texas College students

  In an effort to assist deserving students preparing to enter the workforce, Grainger Industrial Supply has supplemented its annual scholarship to students by donating tools to South Texas College. Grainger, a leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair and operating products, has donated $6,000 worth of tools that will then be distributed to students through the college.   Anna Velez believes in encouraging students to do the best they can in school and learn as much as possible, so they can apply their skills in the workforce. Velez says the challenges in her life have enabled her to make the most out of some extremely tough situations. Born in Weslaco but raised in Florida, Velez said she returned to the Valley in 2014. South Texas College to offer Aviation Camps, Sparking enthusiasm in future pilots

With a prominent pilot shortage in the U.S., South Texas College’s Continuing Professional and Workforce Education Department will be hosting a Summer Aviation Camp to spark an interest in flying for future pilots. The four-day camps will take place at the STC Technology Campus in McAllen and is intended for elementary, junior high, and high school students. The camp will touch on the subjects of remotely piloted vehicles (drones) and flying fundamentals. A natural engineer with a penchant for building things, Horacio Salinas is a hardworking individual who always puts the extra effort and makes it a point to assist others in class. South Texas College students receive Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad

Two South Texas College students have been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad for the summer of 2018. STC’s Richard Villarreal and Yesenia Serrato were selected to receive the scholarship in the amount of $3,500 and $3,000. The scholarship will cover program expenses to study in Spain in collaboration with the Universidad de Salamanca.
