South Texas College Art Department presents ‘Almost Heaven’, the work of artist Mark Trent beginning Sept. 11.

The South Texas College Art Department presents “Almost Heaven” an art exhibition featuring works by artist, Mark Trent. The exhibit opens Monday, September 11, and will be available to view Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until October 11, 2016, at the South Texas College Art Gallery located on the Pecan Campus, building B-103.

After studying at New River Community and Technical College in Lewisburg, West Virginia Mark Trent earned a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. Mark worked for several years in New York City working in commercial photography and filmmaking. He now works as a freelance multimedia artist.

Mark has accumulated a body of stunning images shot in his native West Virginia, from intimate portraits to haunting and unfiltered observations of his surroundings. “Almost Heaven” consists of images selected from this insightful personal collection.

“Whether through still photography, or motion picture Mark’s mastery of light and atmosphere is evident in his poignant and arresting images”, says Art Instructor, Nathan England . “His stories are often personal, and always seen through a prism of empathy for his subjects. Mark’s desire to tell stories drives his images; each one conveying it’s own compelling narrative”.

With a combination of Trent’s images, potential viewers should realize the nature of the exhibition.

On Thursday, October 5th, Trent will give an artist talk from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition, artist talk and reception are free and open to the public.
