Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas hosts focus group at Starr County Campus

Students with the Starr County Campus Psychology Club at South Texas College recently participated in a focus group on substance abuse conducted by Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas. A focus group is defined as a systematic way to collect qualitative, or descriptive, data through small group discussion. Irwin Mendoza, representative from Behavioral Health was invited as a guest speaker, and provided an overview of the services provided by BHSST as well as the 19 counties it serves. Starr County Psychology Club hosts suicide prevention training

  On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, the STC Counseling Department along with UTRGV hosted a Campus Suicide Prevention Training for the Starr County Campus Psychology Club. The training was the first for STC students. The overall goal of the campus suicide prevention training is to raise awareness of suicide as a critical but preventable issue among individuals.  The South Texas College (STC) Starr County Campus Psychology Club hosted its Mental Health Awareness Conference on Dec. 7, 2017 for the 9th time.  The conference that is hosted every fall and spring semester is intended to bring awareness to different mental health topics. Mexico Earthquake Relief Donation Drive by Starr Psych Club

The Starr County Campus Psychology Club of South Texas College dropped off their donations for Mexico Earthquake Relief at the City of Roma Fire Department On Monday, Oct. 9, 2017,to be shipped to Mexico later this week. The Starr County Campus Psychology Club of South Texas College hosted its 12th Starr County Role Models Get Inspired Conference at the STC Starr County Campus Auditorium in Rio Grande City On Thursday, Oct. 19. STC Starr County Campus holds its annual orientation for psychology majors

Seeking to provide additional information about the field of psychology to prospective students, South Texas College held its 3rd annual Starr County Campus Psychological Science Majors Orientation on Sept. 20 in Rio Grande City. STC Psychology students in Starr County donate for Hurricane Harvey relief

The Starr Campus Psychology Club of South Texas College donated more than $400 in aid for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. On Aug. 31, psychology students donated everything from canned food and bottled water to hygiene products and diapers at Starr County Memorial Hospital. Items were shipped to Houston and other affected areas there. Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Aug. 26 as a Category-4 storm with winds of more than 130 mph. Starr County Psychology Club joins Adopt-A-Highway program

The Starr County Campus Psychology Club of South Texas College participated in its first ever Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pick-Up on Saturday, July 8. Psychology club members collected over 20 bags of trash over a 2 mile stretch in Rio Grande City adjacent to the STC campus which they opted to sponsor earlier this year. The “Adopt-A-Highway: Don’t Mess with Texas” Initiative created by the Texas Department of Transportation has been established to help keep the Texas roads clean.
