Students from South Texas College – Design & Building Technology Department are partnering with a local builder, subcontractors, suppliers and trade professionals seeking to build a house from the ground up within the span of a week. In remembrance of September 11, South Texas College honors our serving men and women and first responders

Veteran McAllen Police Officer George Villarreal remembers the impact he felt when the planes hit the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.  As someone who has attended many funerals for fallen officers, Villarreal said it feels similar to losing a family member even if they have never met in person. “As police officers, just like in the military, we don’t run away from trouble we run towards it. South Texas College is inviting the community to join in a day of remembrance for the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. STC will be holding ceremonies at four campuses on Monday Sept. 11.  In McAllen, the Pecan Campus will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m. by the flag poles near Building K. Originally from Tamaulipas, Christian Adame says he grew on the ranchlands in Mexico. Often helping his father as a laborer, Christian says his biggest dream was to receive an education and obtain a better quality of life for himself and his family.
