A passion for self-improvement

Cris Rangel, a Kinesiology student at South Texas College, has the drive to enact positive change in his life and in others through his career.  

Rangel’s passion for self-improvement and his thirst for knowledge are evident in his everyday actions. He is always actively seeking out opportunities to learn and grow, both academically and personally.

He had the opportunity to choose his path to higher education and he made the conscious decision to attend STC.

“I wanted to be close to my family and friends, and I decided that STC was the best option for me,” he said. “Plus, financially, it just made sense.”  

Rangel is pursuing an associate degree in Kinesiology, and as a student in the program, he prepares daily to become a professional who advocates for healthy lifestyles for everyone.

Rangel also has a passion for helping people who have been in car accidents or have disabilities. He said he finds it rewarding assisting those facing physical challenges

“To be able to help someone achieve something that seems impossible and to create a bond with them is what I want to do,” said Rangel. “My first year of college has been a little challenging, but I know my end goal, and I want to keep pushing till graduation.”

And outside of the classroom, Rangel is also finding his place. He is eager to start his new work-study job with the STC Student Activities and Wellness department, and he said he is excited about the opportunity to become more involved in keeping students engaged.

“It’s fun to be around students who are as motivated as I am,” he said. “I find it deeply rewarding to contribute to the student community. I feel more students need to get involved and the motivation that everyone in the department gives to students is great. I’m excited to be a part of it.”   

Rangel expects to graduate in… and said until then, he looks forward to what STC has to offer.
