Colleges Partner for B2BMED Research Training Program

UTRGV Biomedical Sciences and South Texas College added a new chapter by collaborating on the Bridges to Baccalaureate (B2BMED) research program. The program is supported by a $2 million National Institute of Health (NIH) funded grant for 5 years (08/01/2020 to 07/31/2025).

The program will provide support to STC students enrolled in Associate Biology programs to research in biomedical sciences. It provides stipends, tuition, and research and academic advising support to the students. Megan Zamora, Karina Cantu, Natasha Garcia Rodriguez, Viviana Villalobos, and Elias Martinez were selected as the first cohort of students through a competitive selection process. This grant offers STC biology students opportunities to engage in research and a smooth transition to the UTRGV biomedical sciences program.

The NIH-funded grant is a multi-institutional collaborative effort written by Dr. Sue Anne Chew (PI-UTRGV), Dr. Saraswathy Nair (Co-PI UTRGV), Ruben Reyes (PI-TSC), and Dr. Shima Chaudhary (PI-STC). Direct all queries related to this program to schaudhary@southtexascollege.edu
