Student of the Week: Idaliz Sanchez
I've always had a passion to help others, and with a history of women educators in my family, teaching feels like a natural path for me.
Idaliz Sanchez, a 17-year-old from Sharyland High School, currently enrolled in the Dual Credit program at South Texas College is not just a driven student; she's an inspiration to many with her dedication and passion for education.
The first-generation college student is aiming for her associate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies this semester through the Dual Credit program.
"I’d like to pursue Education as a career. I've always had a passion to help others, and with a history of women educators in my family, including my grandmother and aunts who were teachers, teaching feels like a natural path for me,” said Sanchez.
Discovering the Dual Credit program during her sophomore year, Sanchez found all the information she needed in a school flyer and was instantly drawn to it. She recommends it to other students who also want a jump start at college.
Starting next semester, she plans on becoming a full-time college student and anticipates to graduate with her associate degree in Education.
Sanchez finds motivation in her mother's journey, completing her education and becoming a teacher. She also wants to inspire her younger sisters to pursue education.
Sanchez added, her experience at STC has been a great welcoming environment.
"South Texas College has always been great to me. It feels like home," Sanchez shares.
Choosing STC was an easy decision for her because it's close to home and she'll be attending with her friends, making the transition smoother.
Sanchez dreams of becoming a high school teacher, inspired by the support she received during her high school years and wanting to give back to students. Despite her busy academic schedule, Sanchez finds time for extracurricular activities and looks forward to being an all-around student at STC.
“I’m excited about the opportunities that await me at ST,” she said. “With determination, passion and dedication to education, there's no doubt that I’m destined for greatness.”
