Devoted to justice in law enforcement

Student of the Week: Amber Nichole Balboa

I want to blend my passions for justice and public service, with a steadfast commitment to making a meaningful impact and STC has given me the steadfast spirit and confidence I need to achieve this.

STC Student of the Week Amber Nichole Balboa

Amber Nichole Balboa is in her last year at South Texas College and is driven by her passion for criminal justice.

Since childhood, her love for hunting and fishing, inspired by her dad, fueled her dream of becoming a game warden.

"Growing up with family members in Border Patrol and government roles sparked an interest in following my family’s footsteps," said Balboa.

She proudly earned her associate degree in Criminal Justice last fall and plans to complete her remaining courses for her bachelor's degree in organizational leadership while applying to become a border patrol agent.

Emphasizing the impact of STC, she reflects on building memories, volunteering with student activities, playing intramural sports and finding friends who became like family.

Grateful for guidance from mentors like Luis Banda, STC coordinator of Student Activities and Wellness and Jeanette Gomez, STC College Connection specialist and recruiter, Balboa values the support that has shaped her college experience.

Her commitment also extends beyond academics. She's actively involved in student organizations like Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Leadership Academy (SLA), contributing to campus improvement.

Coming from a family of STC graduates, with her older sister Ashley paving the way, Balboa aspires to graduate and realize her dreams of a career in law enforcement and public service.

“I want to blend my passions for justice and public service, with a steadfast commitment to making a meaningful impact," said Balboa. "STC has given me the steadfast spirit and confidence I need to achieve this.”
