Student of the Week: Luis Roberto Ramos
It’s a privilege to be identified as an STC student. I am not a first-generation college student, but I am determined to set a high standard for my younger siblings.
Luis Roberto Ramos, 20, is on a mission to make a difference in his community through the Basic Police Officer Course (BPOC) at South Texas College. Inspired by a memorable encounter with a police officer during his middle school years, Ramos has held a passion for law enforcement ever since.
“That officer’s encouragement sparked something in me,” he recalls. “I want to inspire future generations the same way he made an impact on me,” said Ramos.
He first learned about the STC Police Academy while still in high school. This discovery set him on a path that he is now close to completing. With just four months remaining until graduation, Ramos is determined to finish strong.
Ramos said his semesters have been marked by camaraderie and growth. Ramos fondly remembers getting to know his peers and building meaningful relationships.
“The process of establishing comfortable relationships with my classmates has been a highlight,” Ramos shared.
This sense of community is fostered by the supportive environment at STC, which Ramos describes as unique and enriching. Choosing STC was a deliberate decision for Ramos, based on the college’s reputation for excellence and its disciplined environment.
“It’s a privilege to be identified as an STC student, this choice has also been influenced by my family background with two siblings, a younger sister in high school and an older sister working as a nurse in Mexico. I am not a first-generation college student, but I am determined to set a high standard for my younger siblings,” said Ramos.
Ramos’ ultimate goal is to graduate as the valedictorian for his academy cohort. Outside of his academic pursuits, he engages in extracurricular activities such as tennis and weightlifting, which help him maintain wellness.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to share his story, Ramos emphasizes his commitment to service and leadership.
“Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts and experiences,” he said. “As I look towards the future, I remain steadfast in my dedication to my community and my personal growth.”
