Inspiring young minds in elementary education

Aurora Morales is passionately pursuing an associate degree in Elementary Education at South Texas College. 

“I decided to pursue this degree because I have a passion for helping others learn and grow, and the impact it can have on children's lives is invaluable,” the 19-year-old explained. 

Morales’ journey into education was sparked by a friend majoring in the same field. 

“My commitment is to shape future generations. It reflects my belief that teaching goes beyond imparting knowledge to inspire and nurture young minds", said Morales. 

Looking ahead to next semester, Morales plans to immerse herself into her education classes and prepare for a practicum that will allow her to gain hands-on teaching experience. 

Reflecting on her first year, she shared a special memory, "this past semester I led a group project that allowed me to collaborate with my classmates and create a class group chat. The best part was seeing our ideas come to life in a classroom setting when we all met up in person.” 

Morales said motivation to push forward comes from her family, particularly her mother and nieces. 

“My mother has done so much to help get me this far. She believes that I will one day inspire young minds to help create a better future,” Morales said. 

Her nieces, all young girls, also drive her ambition. 

“I want them to see that anything they believe or dream about is never impossible. I hope to be a role model for them,” she said. 

Morales’ advice to herself for next semester is to stay organized and proactive with her studies. 

“Although life gets busy, I want to make sure I also take time to reflect on what I’m learning and how it applies to my future classroom,” she added. 

STC has significantly impacted Morales’ educational journey. She said the dedication faculty has for student success has been particularly impactful. 

“STC has provided me with a supportive learning environment and valuable resources that have helped my educational experience,” she said. 

Morales comes from a large family, she is the youngest of four older brothers and one older sister. Although she is not the first in her family to attend college, she is determined to finish her degree alongside her sister, who is also majoring in education. 

Morales’ goal is to become an elementary school teacher and make a significant difference in students' lives. 

“I ultimately dream of advancing into educational leadership to influence educational policies and practices,” she said. 

Beyond academics, Morales is actively involved in extracurricular activities on campus. She volunteers at STC’s student food pantry, participates in the Student Government Association and Student Leadership Academy and works part-time at the Student Activity & Wellness Department. 

“These activities allow me to connect with people and build skills that are essential for my future career,” Morales shared. 

As Morales continues her journey at STC, her dedication to education and her vision for the future remain clear. 

“I just want to thank STC for this chance and for every opportunity they give us to be our best and to showcase our unique and special traits. This helps us become who we aspire to be.”
