'It's all for the patient'

Student of the Week: Braden Moroles

“STC was my ideal place because they had something very special to offer. The ADN program was talked about very highly of amongst my classmates and professors during my prerequisite classes. I wanted a purposeful education, and it’s what STC offered.”

As a future medical professional, Braden Moroles says he looks at his education at South Texas College as intense studying for the patients he will one day care for.

Every day, it starts with asking himself several important questions, he said. “How am I making myself a better nurse for my patient today? What can I do better?”

These questions run through his mind and it motivates him to succeed, Braden said.

“My primary goal is to be the nurse that is by my patient’s side, and to do whatever I can to make my patient at most ease,” he said.

Braden is currently pursuing an associate degree in Nursing, and seeks to pass the NCLEX exam to become a certified RN. After graduating from the RN-BSN program at STC, he hopes to acquire a bachelor’s degree, and earn a job on an intense care unit caring for patients who need immediate and efficient care.

“STC was my ideal place because they had something very special to offer,” Braden said. “The ADN program was talked about very highly of amongst my classmates and professors during my prerequisite classes. I wanted a purposeful education, and it’s what STC offered.”

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program prepares students with the skills necessary to become practitioners in the healthcare field, and qualified to work in hospitals, day-surgery centers, rehabilitation centers, physicians’ offices, and home health care agencies.

Braden said STC puts an emphasis on teamwork, which is what he will rely on when he enters the field.

“If I could give advice, I’d say make friends,” Braden said. “Your classmates are aiming for the same goal. I’ve come to know that my classmates have helped me tremendously. Just like in healthcare, we’re a team. We encourage each other, we uplift each other.

“My experience at STC has been incredible,” he added. “When we go to the libraries, the staff truly aids you towards success. Professors not only give you the relevant information for tests and quizzes but also input on practical situations.”
