Jonathan Wayne Bell - Creating an Immersive Learning Environment with Mathematica
"Mr. Bell uses Mathematica software to create an immersive learning environment for his students. By bringing mathematical concepts to life through the use of this software, he creates a learning experience that is both tactile and visual for his students."
Mr. Bell earned a Master of Science in Mathematical Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Texas Pan American. He uses Mathematica software to create an immersive learning environment for his students. As students are already familiar with technology in the form of graphing calculators, the transition to a user-friendly, higher-level, technical computing system represents a natural progression in the learning process. It allows students to independently explore the concepts of polynomial zeros, x-intercepts, end-behavior and solutions of polynomial equations using Mathematica.
The intent is to have students explore and develop a deeper understanding of abstract and rigorous concepts by leveraging the dynamical nature of Mathematica. Bell also uses Mathematica to introduce students to coding. By bringing mathematical concepts to "life" through the use of this software, he creates a learning experience that is both tactile and visual for his students.
