Navigating a Path to Dental Hygiene

Hazel Morlock, is a 19-year-old student at South Texas College embarking on her second semester as a Biology major, laying the groundwork for her dream of becoming a dental hygienist.

"Biology is an important step towards my goal of entering the dental hygiene program. It provides the necessary information and prerequisites I need for the medical field," Morlock explained.

Driven by a desire for personal growth and exploration, Morlock chose to pursue a different path from her twin sister, who studies business also at STC.

"While my twin sister pursues business, I've found my passion in biology. STC's offerings and opportunities for biology majors were enticing, leading me to choose this path," Morlock shared.

"I'll be taking three classes over the summer, striving to maintain a 4.0 grade-point average. It's a demanding schedule, but essential for my academic and career aspirations."

Beyond the classroom, Morlock also dedicates her time to extracurricular activities.

Reflecting on her journey, she finds fulfillment in her involvement on campus, serving as the president of the International Student Club and participating in the Student Government Association.

"This semester, I've immersed myself in campus life, making connections and making meaningful contributions through clubs and organizations. Being recognized as a Student of the Week is a great reminder that I am doing a great job," Morlock expressed with pride.

Motivated by her vision for the future, she relies on her inner drive and determination to help her keep moving forward.

"I draw motivation from within, fueled by my aspirations for the future. I know where I want to be, and I'm committed to putting in the effort to get there," Morlock stated.

To motivate others like her, she offers words of encouragement, emphasizing self-belief and resilience to academic challenges.

"As we navigate challenging coursework, let’s remind ourselves to trust in our abilities and to embrace the journey. Confidence and perseverance will carry us through," Morlock advised.

Grateful for the support and guidance she's received at STC, Morlock acknowledges the impact of the college's faculty and staff.

"STC's supportive environment has been instrumental in my academic journey. The faculty has been a constant source of assistance and encouragement. STC has provided me with the platform to pursue my aspirations.
