Navigating Success at STC

Omar E. Cedillo Jr., a 20-year-old Biology student at South Texas College, is focused on his educational pursuits and has his eyes set on success.

With graduation nearing, he said he could finally see the finish line.

"I'm passionate about pursuing my associate degree at STC," Cedillo affirms. "But I'm also looking ahead to obtaining a bachelor's degree, which will open doors to more opportunities, especially in the medical field."

Expecting to graduate in December, Cedillo said he plans to dedicate two additional years at STC for his bachelor's degree in biology to help him achieve his goals.

Cedillo added that with each passing semester, he prepares himself for the transition to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).

Beyond academics, Cedillo is also engaged in STC intramural sports where he has found an escape from his studies. Engaging in friendly competition with his peers, he said, adds balance and enjoyment to his collegiate experience.

Cultivating meaningful relationships and finding a sense of belonging at STC has been pivotal to Cedillo’s journey. He expresses gratitude for the unwavering support of his family, particularly his parents, whose encouragement fuels his academic pursuits.

"My parents have helped me in motivating me to be the best in and out of the classroom.” Said Cedillo.

Reflecting on his academic journey, Cedillo emphasizes to other students the importance of staying focused and avoiding procrastination.

"It's crucial to maintain discipline and stay on course," he reflects. "Consistency and perseverance are key to achieving one's goals," Cedillo said.

STC serves as more than just an institution of learning for Cedillo, he said.

“It's a nurturing environment that fosters personal growth,” he said. “I am filled with anticipation for the opportunities that lie on the horizon.”
