South Texas College celebrated its first successful semester collaborating with the Blimpie Sub Shop franchises in the Valley to provide scholarships to current students.

A total of six students were selected to receive funds donated by Blimpie franchises in the Valley, which are independently owned and operated by Esperanza on Fifth LLC.

Operating under the slogan “Great Food for a Great Cause,” Blimpie Sub Shops in both McAllen and Weslaco have dedicated their revenue to providing economic assistance to the community.

In 2017, Esperanza on Fifth LLC partnered with South Texas College to create the Blimpie Scholarship.

“Through our partnership, we can change the lives of our scholarship recipients and those recipients, in turn, will change their families lives forever,” said Miguel Carranza, Interim Dean of Enrollment Services.

The six students selected were Aisha Tanguma, Napoleon Coca, Manuel Derueda, Fabian Cedillo, Enriqueta Serna, and Jesus Picazo.

All scholarships awarded combined to an estimated $1,000. The Blimpie Scholarship will open up once again later this year.  For more information on scholarship opportunities at South Texas College visit https://studentservices.southtexascollege.edu/finaid/scholarships/index.html.
