STC Biology Students and Faculty Publish Paper in Peer-Reviewed Journal

Larissa Barroso and Mariela Alvarado, biology majors at South Texas College (STC), coauthored a review paper titled “Conformational Polymorphism in Organic Crystals: Structural and Functional aspects - A Review” with Dr. Zaman, a faculty member in the Biology Department. The paper appeared in the November 2019 issue of Current Research in Material Chemistry. Both Larissa and Mariela joined Dr. M.S. Zaman in this review research on Polymorphic Crystals. Their work has led to a conference presentation titled “Polymorphic Crystals in Medicine, A Review” at the annual conference of UTRGV School of Medicine Research Symposium in September 2019, and a full-length manuscript as mentioned above. This work was a collaboration with Dr. Bidisha Sengupta of Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, TX and Dr. Pradeep Sengupta of University of Calcutta, India.Ms. Barroso is expected to graduate from STC in Fall 2020 and plans to continue her education at UTRGV in the areas of Biomedical Sciences. Ms. Alvarado has graduated from STC and is pursuing higher education at UT San Marcos.
