STC introduces new opportunities for students spring 2021
Adding to the “hybrid” system of learning first presented by STC for the fall, the college will now be offering a limited number of courses with 100 percent face-to-face instruction for students as well as “synchronous online” courses for students in the spring.
South Texas College presents new opportunities in the form of expanded course offerings just in time for the spring semester.
Adding to the “hybrid” system of learning first presented by STC for the fall, the college will now be offering a limited number of courses with 100 percent face-to-face instruction for students.
A list of those courses can be found here https://stc.media/spring-f2f.
STC also introduces a new modality for the spring with the addition of “Synchronous Online” courses, which are similar to traditional on-campus classes requiring students to be present during a scheduled live, online class time.
Here’s how it works. At the designated class time, students will login to the virtual learning platform (Blackboard) to attend a live, online session. During this synchronous class time, faculty will engage with students using virtual class discussions, video lessons, and presentations.
“Synchronous Online classes are an excellent bridge between 100 percent online and coming to class on campus,” stated Dr. Anahid Petrosian, Chief Academic Officer and Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Students experience a greater sense of community and connection to their peers when they all learn together. These classes also provide a regularly scheduled class time for students that thrive in a more structured learning environment. Ultimately, we are providing different ways in which students can succeed.”
As of December, there are 45 Face-to-Face classes scheduled for the spring, over 80 Synchronous Online sections, and over 200 In-Person Hybrid sections.
