Student of the Week: Ira Juarez

Ira Juarez believes a positive mindset sets a strong example for her family and herself. It has helped her despite being out of high school for a year and half to obtain her residency.  In the beginning, Ira was nervous about returning to school or even wanting to go to college. However, an opportunity presented itself and she found herself graduating from South Palms in Weslaco in 2015 and transitioned straight into college.

Today, she is a teacher in the making at South Texas College.

“I’m currently working on my Associates of Arts and plan to graduate fall 2018,”said Ira. “I originally was pursuing a profession in nursing, but I soon found my heart was more into teaching and being around children.”

After graduation, Ira plans to continue her education by transferring to Texas A&M University-Kingsville to receive her bachelor’s degree.

“I love children. I love to teach and I love to touch a child’s life because you never know the difference you can have on them. At the same time, I know that I can be a positive role model to them,” Ira said. “I plan to teach children from early age childhood to sixth grade.”

Ira shares the following advice to students:

“To students coming out of high school, don’t stop there, continue your education. For those who are debating to make a return after being out for so long, do not let your age put fear in you. Whatever goal you have in mind believe that you can achieve it.”

Top three accomplishments:

“As a student, I have gotten involved with several student life activities offered on campus. Today, I currently serve as President of the Education Club, Sectary of the Spanish club, and I am a student of the Leadership Academy”.

“One of my goals was to be featured as a Student of the Week and here I am today. So I can state that this is now a new accomplishment for me in my books”.

“I recently received my certification to start substituting. I have plans to start in the fall time”
