Student of the Week: Marina Martinez

Faculty at South Texas College (STC) say Marina Martinez is an excellent student. With her academic work and her approach to school, Marina is never afraid to provide a helping hand.

In her role as a student mentor, Marina tries to share a bit of her backstory with new students to help them transition into a college-going culture.

“I love being a student mentor,” she said. “I appreciate helping students with everything from financial aid, admissions, and advising. After I do I my basics and get my associate degree in criminal justice, I hope to get into the FBI and enter forensics.

Born and raised in Roma, Marina, 19, is currently attending STC and studying criminal justice. She is preparing for a career in law enforcement.

“I decided to go to STC because it’s close to my home and I save money,” Marina said. “To students, I would like to tell them to follow their dreams and do what they love to do even if it can be stressful at times. It will pay off.”

Top three accomplishments:

“I am proud to have been captain in color guard in high school.”

“My other accomplishment is being on the way to graduate from STC.”

“My final accomplishment would be to become a forensic investigator.”
