Taking first steps toward nursing dream through dual credit
Student of the Week: Genesis Sanchez
STC has taught me that working hard will come with great rewards, knowing I could potentially graduate with my associate degree at the same time as my high school diploma is a huge motivation.
Genesis Sanchez, 16, is making her way toward fulfilling her dream of becoming a pediatric nurse by pursuing an associate degree in Biology through the Dual Credit program at South Texas College.
“My goal is to become a pediatric nurse, and this degree is the first step toward my big dream,” said Sanchez.
Her journey into higher education was significantly influenced by her counselors at Valley View High School.
“They played a huge role in helping me decide the best degree to pursue in order to reach my goal,” she shared.
Expected to graduate in May 2025, Sanchez is eager to complete her studies and continue her educational journey.
“STC has taught me that working hard will come with great rewards knowing I could potentially graduate with my associate degree at the same time as my high school diploma is a huge motivation,” said Sanchez.
Getting involved with student activities at STC has also been a highlight for Sanchez.
“Being part of student activities made me feel like part of a community. Everyone is so friendly and they have helped me throughout my semesters here. It’s been a great experience and it has helped me make new friends.”
Sanchez draws inspiration from her family, particularly her aunt Chantal Lopez who earned her bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from STC and currently works in the college’s department.
“She’s always encouraged me to continue my education and pushes me to be the best I can be,” she said.
Looking ahead, Sanchez is excited about her future as a pediatric nurse and is committed to achieving her goals.
