Student of the Week: Adela Mendoza

I aspire to not only complete the two-year Criminal Justice program at STC, but also continue my education and fulfill my dream of becoming a CBP officer.

STC Student of the Week Adela Mendoza

Adela Mendoza, 18, embarks on her academic journey at South Texas College with a clear vision of entering the field of Criminal Justice. Her story unfolds with determination and a resolute dream of becoming a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer.

Mendoza stands out not just for her chosen field, but also for the passion that fuels her pursuit. Dreaming of a future as a CBP officer, she approaches her studies with dedication and an unwavering commitment to turning her aspirations into reality.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to go into criminal justice. I did my research and came across the program here at STC,” said Mendoza. Looking ahead, Mendoza is expected to graduate in 2025 and aims to keep reaching for her goals.

Beyond academics, Mendoza’s story unfolds in Student Activities, where she is making new friends and actively contributing to the community as she prepares to work as a work-study in the department this semester at STC’s Pecan Campus. I

t's not just about academic excellence for Mendoza. It's also about building meaningful connections and leaving a positive impact on those around her.

“I am so excited to work for student activities and meet new people,” said Mendoza.

Family holds a special place in Mendoza's heart. With four brothers and a sister, her household is a testament to familial bonds and shared dreams. As a first-generation college student, Mendoza treads new ground, guided by the achievements of her older siblings.

Mendoza follows in the footsteps of her older siblings, who have excelled academically. Her sister is currently a student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and her older brother, who completed two years at STC, have set the stage for Mendoza’s educational journey.

Their achievements have become not just a source of pride, but also one of motivation, reinforcing her belief that with dedication and perseverance, she can attain her dream.

“Their success becomes motivation for me as I aspire to not only complete the two-year Criminal Justice program at STC, but also continue my education and fulfill my dream of becoming a CBP officer,” said Mendoza.
