On a mission to help others

Angela Marie Gomez, is on a mission to earn her associate degree in Psychology at South Texas College, A passion rooted in a childhood dream of always wanting to help others, driving her ambition to become a therapist.

"Growing up, I felt a strong connection to discussing my feelings, sparking my curiosity to listen and empathize with people. That inspired my path towards becoming a therapist," said the 20 year old.

Discovering the psychology program through classmates who recognized her interest, Gomez wasted no time in registering.

She expects to graduate in fall 2024 and said she is excited to meet this goal.

Beyond academics, Gomez actively contributes to creating a supportive campus atmosphere as an active member of the Student Government Association.

Reflecting on a cherished memory, she recalls attending Association For the Promotion of Campus Activities.

“This experience introduced me to like-minded individuals and left a significant mark on my college journey,” she said.

She added that family also plays a pivotal role in her motivation, with her mother offering unwavering support through her ups and downs.

Gomez’s mother imparts the wisdom of perseverance, advising her to, “Keep looking forward and never giving up, even if things get tough.”

Gomez isn't alone in her STC legacy, her older brother is also an STC graduate and while she isn't a first-generation college student, Gomez draws inspiration from her mother, who holds the honor of being the first in the family to graduate from college.

“This familial achievement serves as my motivation to continue the pursuit of higher education to make myself and my family proud,” she said.
