All Courses for Summer Session to be Conducted Online

With the continued health and safety of students and employees in mind, South Texas College will maintain a distance learning environment for all classes during the summer 2020 semester, which begins on June 1.

Students already registered for summer semester courses were notified of the online or alternate class format changes. There is the potential of classes returning to a face-to-face format during the term if conditions allow.

“We are striving to insure that students are able to continue moving towards the academic and career goals set for themselves during this time of distant engagement,” said Mike Carranza, Associate Dean of Student Financial Services, Testing and Veterans Affairs. “Supporting our students along their educational journey remains our top priority.”

Students with questions or concerns about Summer classes or registration should reach out to their instructor, their department chair, or the division dean, for assistance. Summer Pell Money Available

Students planning to attend Summer classes at STC might get a break in their wallet. Summer Pell grant monies are available to eligible students.

Students in two groups may be eligible for summer funds.

If a student was awarded the Pell Grant as a full-time student in both Fall and Spring they may be eligible to receive an additional semester award called the Year Round Pell Grant.

To be qualified students must:

• Be Pell Grant eligible
• Be registered for at least 6 credit hours*
• Be meeting Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress
• Have not reached the Pell Lifetime Eligibility Limit

*If registered for less than 6 credit hours, students must complete 2020-2021 FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov to be considered for Pell Grant funds in the summer.

*If students register for 3 credit hours Summer I and 3 credit hours Summer II, their aid will not disburse until Summer II.

If a student was not awarded 100% of their Pell grant funds because they did not enroll full-time (12+ credit hours) during Fall and/or Spring,:

They may use the remainder amount of their current award year Pell Grant amount with no minimum credit hours required to receive it, assuming they meet Pell eligibility requirements,

or

They may receive a combination of the Pell remainder amount and Year Round Pell, up to a semester Pell grant award, depending on enrollment, if they meet the requirements discussed above.

For Senate Bill 1528 students, although the Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) is not available for Summer semester, we are able to assist students who maintain Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress, as long as funds are available. Please note that these funds may only cover a portion of their bill.
