Distance Learning Symposium to provide learning opportunities for online educators

South Texas College’s 12th annual Distance Learning Symposium encourages educators to bring innovation into online courses.

Faculty will have the opportunity to share, network, engage, and explore ideas for online instruction from a variety of breakout sessions and speakers Aug. 22.

The South Texas College Online Campus promotes advancing quality teaching and learning experiences designed to reach and engage the modern learner – anyone, anytime and anywhere.

“The purpose of the symposium is to foster effective teaching and learning strategies for online learners,” said Johnny Gonzalez, Distance Learning Assistive Tech Specialist. “At our 12th South Texas College Online Campus Annual Symposium, faculty can expect engaging and dynamic sessions, professional development and share best practices to promote student success for our distance education.”

Keynote speaker at the symposium will be Ms. Leslie Fisher, director of Fisher Technologies Inc., which specializes in K-12 Educational Technology conference and event presentation services as well as on site and online professional development.

For over a decade, the annual symposium has positioned online faculty, staff of the distance learning department, and the South Texas College community to succeed in the new realities of 21st Century distance learning.

The Distance Learning department is dedicated to fostering effective teaching and learning, best practices, and strategies in online learning and teaching.

Starting in 1997 with two course sections and 57 students, the Distance Learning Program at STC has since expanded to include 34 online degrees, which are fully online, 280 faculty, 700 online classes, and over 6,000 students.

Students can earn one of 34 degrees and certificates entirely online as they pursue their career goals.
