Student of the Week: Emily Carrizales
STC has helped prepare me by teaching me both the technical and professional skills I need to succeed.
For Emily Carrizales, a career in healthcare is about more than learning technical skills, but about making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Carrizales is a student in South Texas College and is gaining the hands-on experience and confidence needed to begin her journey in the medical field while preparing for an even bigger goal: becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
“I chose to start with phlebotomy because I have always wanted a career where I can help people and make a difference in their healthcare experience,” she said. “I also see it as a great first step toward my career in the medical field.”
Carrizales chose STC because of its strong reputation for healthcare education and the opportunity to receive quality, affordable training close to home.
Throughout the program, Carrizales says the hands-on learning environment has been one of the most rewarding parts of her experience.
“My favorite part has been the hands-on training and getting to practice real phlebotomy skills,” she said. “I have also made new friends and created fun experiences that have made my time at STC even more enjoyable.”
Like many college students, Carrizales has had to balance academics with responsibilities outside the classroom.
“My biggest challenge has been balancing school with my part-time job,” she said. “I've learned how to manage my time, stay organized and remain focused on my goals.”
Carrizales credits her family for encouraging her every step of the way.
“The people who have supported me the most are my mom, my boyfriend and my family members,” she said. “Their encouragement, love and belief in me have motivated me to keep pushing forward and achieve my goals.”
As she prepares to graduate, Carrizales plans to begin working as a phlebotomist while continuing her education to become an LVN.
“STC has helped prepare me by teaching me both the technical and professional skills I need to succeed,” she said. “Through hands-on practice, teamwork and patient care experiences, I feel more confident and prepared to begin my career in healthcare.”
With a passion for helping others and a commitment to lifelong learning, Carrizales is building a strong foundation for a career dedicated to compassionate patient care one step at a time.
