Learning to Give Back

Student of the Week: Jisel Munoz

“I enjoy helping out, whether it’s through my studies or even with the college food pantry. It’s something that will help me in the future as I learn to give back, especially with students as they look forward to their own careers.”
Student of the Week Jisel Munoz

Through her time at South Texas College Jisel Muñoz says one important thing has always remained constant – learning to give back to her fellow peers is shaping a future career dedicated to education.

Formerly a dual enrollment student, Jisel is currently pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and plans to complete her Bachelor degree in Organizational Leadership with the hopes of entering a career in elementary school education.

“I enjoy helping out, whether it’s through my studies or even with the college food pantry,” she said. “It’s something that will help me in the future as I learn to give back, especially with students as they look forward to their own careers.”

Jisel is currently working as a work study with the Student Activities & Wellness Department at the Starr County Campus.

She is also a current Valley Scholar recipient, a Student Leadership Academy graduate, and serves as the campus Historian for the Student Government Association.

The Associate of Arts Degree field of study in Interdisciplinary Studies provides students with an education in "college basics" that promotes critical thinking skills and allows for an opportunity to make an informed choice in educational preferences.

The program offers transferable field of study selections in arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, computer applications, and mathematics. This field of study is an excellent transfer program that can be used towards the successful completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in any field.

Faculty say she has demonstrated leadership amongst her classmates by helping them engage in campus activities, and demonstrated leadership in the department by having a great work ethic, promoting teamwork, and excelling in her studies.

“To my peers, I would tell them that attending college is so worth it as long you dedicate the time,” she said. “STC offers a lot of opportunities that will eventually lead to a better career as I continue with my education.”
