Teaching others the beauty of music

Student of the Week: Eduardo Zamora

“What stands out to me here at South Texas College are the professors. Every professor is understanding and will work with you.”

Eduardo Zamora Jr. gave up baseball to concentrate on music. Now he’s at South Texas College studying classical guitar with a growing passion to embark on a career in the field.

“My career and educational goals are simple,” said Zamora. “I just wish to graduate with a degree in music education and/or music performance. I love teaching others about the beauty of music and what it can do for you mentally, and I love to perform in front of people. I love music!”

Zamora, who grew up in Edinburg, played baseball at Edinburg North High School during his freshman and sophomore years but ultimately dropped the sport for a new venture: classical guitar.

“I had never played classical guitar, I was only doing electric guitar,” he said. “The next thing you know, I went from the beginner class to the varsity class. I felt like this was going somewhere and achieving something I never knew would come true. I even ended up going to State to perform.”

After graduating high school in 2019, Zamora moved on to South Texas College because of its well-deserved reputation for excellence, its affordability, and its music program – a program that offers an associate of arts degree and provides a solid foundation in music theory, music literature, applied instrumental and voice lessons, piano proficiency, and more.

“What stands out to me here at South Texas College are the professors,” Zamora added. “Every professor is understanding, and they will work with you on your schedule.”

Zamora’s professors have helped the music major compile a 4.0 grade point average and a certificate of recognition. He says he maintains his motivation through practice, practice, practice.

“South Texas College has really impacted my life for the better,” added Zamora. “If you pay attention, and work hard, you will get recognized.

“If I was writing a story about myself, I would want everyone to know that in my personal life, I have made sacrifices. People who I once knew are gone and in a better place now, and it has been hard for me at times. Life will get hard sometimes, but at the end of the day I have to keep on going. Many things will happen in life, but you have to stay strong. You just have to believe in yourself.”
