Student of the Week: Michael Campos

Intending to follow in the footsteps of family members into medical school, Michael Campos says he plans to one day become a great doctor in the Rio Grande Valley.

Currently a Valley Scholar and member of Phi Theta Honor Society at South Texas College, Michael says he has embarked on a journey to become a doctor, and his first step is graduating.

“I have wanted to go on this route since I was 12 years old. In my family, we have several members that are doctors,” he said. “I will be accepted to med school and I plan to come back here because it's a low income community. I want to be able to service them just as I’ve seen my own family do it.”

Michael plans to graduate in Spring 2019 with his associate degree in Biology.

“I chose to study here at STC because it’s cheaper and close to home,” he said. “All of the professors have taught me a lot, and they always tell me to keep on going.

“To students, I would say do not procrastinate. College is fun, and the first year may be a little rough, but that’s life. Nothing is easy. Always keep focus on your work, and strive to make something of yourself.”

TOP ACCOMPLISHMENT

“Being selected for STC’s Valley Scholar Program is pretty amazing. I feel proud being part of this and I know it is a good distinction. I have no words for it other than I’m excited.”
