STC’s Mid-Valley campus Latina Club was invited to participate in “Metamorphosis: Female Student Empowerment Week” at Weslaco High School from Nov. 7 to 11, 2011. The purpose of the week-long celebration was to empower 200 female students to break cultural barriers, actively pursue an education/career and to live stronger lives.

During their two hour presentation, club members and their advisors Laura Gomez and Diana Lucio each spoke about overcoming barriers and believing in themselves. They encouraged the young women to consider STC as a place to expand their knowledge of themselves as they pursue a college education.

The club held a raffle and each winner was given a decorated high heel to remind her that she “can stomp out obstacles.” The Latinas had a table of STC information for the whole week and took time to talk with any girls who had questions.
