STC Starr County Campus Psychology Club “Got Talent 2!’ event raises funds for Christmas toys for local kids

STC Starr County Campus Psychology Club members and judges of the ‘Got Talent 2’ event at the STC Starr County Campus.

Over 200 people attended the South Texas College Starr County Campus Psychology Club hosted “Starr County’s Got Talent 2!” on Dec. 4, at the college’s auditorium to raise funds to purchase toys for Christmas for the children of the city of Escobares.

The event raised over $700 and the Knights Dance Krew (KDK) from F.J. Scott Elementary School in Roma claimed first place in the “Starr County’s Got Talent 2!” competition.

Taking second place in the competition were the Rock Stars, also from F.J. Scott Elementary, while Veterans Middle School student Kassidy Ramérez placed third for singing acapella. The contestants of the event showcased a variety of talents, from singing and dancing to playing musical instruments.

STC Starr County Campus Administrator Rubén Saenz welcomed the crowd to the Starr County Campus event while the Roma High School Choir, under the direction of Adrian Guerra, opened the show. The Veterans Middle School Mariachi Juvenil de América closed out the program.

The contest was judged by a celebrity panel of judges including STC Board of Trustees Chair and Starr County Industrial Foundation President Rose Benavidez, local television host Yolanda de la Cruz, Starr County Social Life Magazine and Cowboy Couture Owner, Rio Grande City Chamber of Commerce VP, and RGC First Lady Giselle Villarreal, RGC Chamber of Commerce President Cecilia Olivarez, local attorney Judith Solis, City of Roma First Lady and Roma High School English Teacher Cassandra Guerra, and RGC Veterans Middle School Mariachi Director Eloy Garza.
